One Stop Shop

Mental Health Reimagined  is a “one stop shop” providing expert Mental Health care, done differently. Rebecca treats a wide range of Mental illnesses and disorders. Her biggest passions and specialist areas include; depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, PTSD and complex trauma.

Full Psychiatric Assessment

At your first appointment, I will conduct a full psychiatric assessment. This is important to ensure that I have a full picture of what your state of health and wellbeing is.

I’ll ask about your living situation, any previous conditions (psychiatric and physical), any medications you take, whether you drink alcohol or take drugs, your family life, your upbringing and anything else that might be relevant.

I will also complete a full Mental State Examination (MSE). With your permission, this will be compiled into a comprehensive assessment and sent to your GP along with a plan for your ongoing care. Typically, I will order a full set of blood tests as well during this appointment to rule out any other concerns.

mental illness and disorder Diagnosis

Nurse Practitioners are authorised to diagnose mental illnesses and disorders. The correct diagnosis is important to ensure you are getting the correct treatment.

I will always be upfront about any impressions I have, or diagnoses I make, and discuss them with you. It’s not uncommon for people to come with a diagnosis, but often it is missing some of the broader context, like failing to take complex trauma into account.

Medication Management

Nurse Practitioners are authorised to prescribe medications within their scope of practice. I can prescribe almost all psychiatric drugs including antidepressants, mood stabilisers, antipsychotics, medications for ADHD and more.

I can work with and support your GP or psychiatrist, or I can take the lead in managing your mental health. I do not prescribe medications outside of Mental Health, including painkillers or medications for physical health conditions.

Psychotherapy

One of the things clients love about Mental Health Reimagined is having therapy by the same person who did your intake assessment and is already managing your Mental Health treatment and medications.

I use a range of treatment modalities in sessions based on what you need and want. I frequently use elements of Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Parts Therapy and a heap more. I love helping people to self-reflect, consider alternate perspectives or just learn more about who they are and why they do or feel the things they do.

Lots of people really appreciate a more practical approach to sessions such as; general counselling with problem solving, advice and skill building. Overall, the approach is flexible and will always be tailored to what you are seeking.

EMDR

Eye Movement, Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is my favourite therapy to provide, due to it’s powerful and life changing capabilities. EMDR is an extensively researched treatment that helps people recover from trauma and PTSD symptoms and is successfully used all over the world.

We know that when a traumatic incident happens, the memories can be incorrectly stored in the brain resulting in re-experiencing and reliving the event, nightmares, stuck beliefs such as “I’m not safe”, “I’m worthless”, “I can’t handle it”, “I have no control” etc, distressing physical symptoms and emotions.

EMDR utilises the self healing capacity of the brain to treat trauma without having to discuss the trauma in any detail. In fact, it’s possible to do EMDR without ever disclosing the trauma. EMDR is able to treat “single incident” trauma such as an assault, an attack or an accident and “complex trauma” such as childhood abuse, neglect, sexual abuse and a range of more complicated scenarios.

EMDR tends to work a lot faster and more efficiently than typical psychotherapy and clients often report experiencing profound changes and insights.

EMDR can be provided in-person within my custom created EMDR space or online via telehealth.

Second Opinion Service

If you’re a clinician (GP, Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Mental Health Social Worker, Nurse, Counsellor etc) and you’re wanting an opinion on your client, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I will complete an initial assessment with your client and with their consent, I will forward you a comprehensive report, complete with diagnosis, risk assessment and plan.

I am happy to collaborate with you and anyone else within the client care team, regardless of who is managing primary care.
