About Mental Health Reimagined

Mental Health Reimagined (MHR) is a privately run Mental Health Practice in the heart of Warragul. Located at The MAST, MHR is situated within a beautiful, unique and welcoming space, within a gorgeous heritage-listed building. As The MAST is not a healthcare setting, there are none of the standard clinical sights and smells you’d expect from your average medical centre. In fact, it’s highly likely it’s unique to any Mental Health space you have seen before. While waiting for your appointment, you can browse the incredible photography collections or make yourself a cup of coffee in the quirky, multicoloured kitchen!

So why did I start Mental Health Reimagined?...

and why did I call it that?

Well, it’s exactly how it sounds. After working as a Nurse for 20+ years and working within the public Mental Health sector for 15 years, I knew that I wanted to create something new.

My qualifications as a Mental Health Nurse Practitioner meant that  I could offer something truly unique and so I started to dream about what a really meaningful mental health service would actually look like. I decided I wanted to offer Mental Health care,  reimagined.

Being a Nurse Practitioner gave me the unique opportunity to bring together the typical models of psychiatry (expert assessment, diagnosis, prescribing of medication) with psychology (therapeutic interventions, trauma therapy, psychotherapy) but all within a Nursing model (think holistic, practical, caring, warm & nurturing).

About Rebecca

I’m a 40-something-year old woman (she/her), who is happily married and has two fantastic children.

I grew up in Ballarat and started my career in Nursing as a Personal Care Attendant, working in a local nursing home for the first couple of years. Once I qualified as a Registered Nurse, I worked at the incredible St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne. I worked within a range of settings there including; intensive care, medical and surgical wards, gastroenterology, orthopaedics, renal, haematology and oncology. This gave me a fantastic general foundation to my Nursing career.

I moved to Gippsland and found myself working within psychiatry. I must admit, I somewhat “fell” unexpectedly into psychiatry but I quickly fell in love with it. I have worked within a range of psychiatric settings including inpatient wards, extended care units, community care units, mental health triage, the education team and as community clinician and case manager. I have held a number of senior and leadership roles along the way and always fought hard for policy changes and process improvement. One of things I proudly implemented was the first trauma-informed training across the Gippsland  region.

I’ve always been an avid learner and am constantly enrolling in new courses and training. I’ve always been committed to learning more so I could do more. After a while, I came to a crossroads within my career and couldn't decide whether to focus on a path of leadership, education or clinical work. This resulted in my journey towards Nurse Practitioner - where the expectation is to lead, teach and become a clinical expert of your field. It was the perfect path for me.

At the time of studying as a Nurse Practitioner, I had two young children and the course was no joke! So fueled by a lot of caffeine, a lot of late nights and a lot of support, I got through my second Masters and I can happily say, I have never looked back.

Outside of work, you can find me chilling out with my Rottweiler, strolling around markets, heading to the beach, reading, watching documentaries or cooking. During all of those activities, there's a good chance I’ll have a coffee in hand. Coffee is definitely my love language!
