Frequently Asked Questions

Holistic & Individualised Care

Mental Health Reimagined offers a unique and comprehensive approach to mental health care that bridges the gap between medical and psychotherapeutic treatments, places patients at the centre of their care, and utilises the specialised skills of Mental Health Nurse Practitioners to provide holistic and personalised treatment in a supportive environment.

  • What services do you offer?

Services include; expert assessment, diagnosis, medication management, psychotherapy and EMDR. You can find more information HERE

  • Can you prescribe medication?

Yes, I can prescribe psychiatric medications. You can read more about that HERE

  • Do I need a referral to see you? Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from my GP?

You don’t need a referral to come to Mental Health Reimagined. Self referrals are welcome and encouraged to ensure no unnecessary barriers to accessing treatment. If you do have a referral or information from a GP or another specialist that you would  like to share though, please bring it along to your appointment or email it though to me prior.

Nurse Practitioners are not able to use Mental Health Care Plans but all appointments do attract a rebate, and unlike a MHCP, there is no limit on the number of appointments you can have in a year.

  • Can you refer me to other specialists including psychiatrists, or for a private hospital admission?

Yes. As a Nurse Practitioner, I have a provider number and can refer you to other specialists. Referrals attract an equal Medicare rebate as a GP. Unfortunately, on limited occasions, although a specialist or hospital CAN accept a Nurse Practitioner referral, sometimes they will insist on a GP referral as well. This can be frustrating but as I collaborate with your GP, it’s usually an easy obstacle to overcome.

If needed, I can refer you to your local Mental Health Service if you need acute care within the public system. I cannot admit you to a public Mental Health ward. That has to come from within the public mental health service but I can help facilitate it.

  • What help is available after hours or if I need crisis support?

As a sole practitioner, I am unable to provide 24/7 support. You will however, be given my mobile number and you will be able to contact me between appointments. For example, if I start you on a new medication and you have a question about it, you can message me to check-in, rather than wait until your next appointment.

If however, you need crisis support: Please contact Lifeline at 13 11 14, Emergency Services at 000, or your local Mental Health Triage Service in Victoria which can be located HERE.

For those living in Gippsland: your Local Mental Health Triage number is: 1300 363 322

  • Do you provide home visits or other community contact

Unfortunately, I am not able to provide home visits. I can see you via telehealth though, if you’d like to see me from the comfort of your own home.

  • Can you make legal orders under the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act?

No. Only people who are working for a public Mental Health Service have the power to make legal orders under the Act.

  • Are you registered with NDIS?

I am not registered with the NDIS but clients can still access Mental Health Reimagined with NDIS funding if they arrange this with their plan manager. In my experience, not all NDIS providers will pay the full fee so there is sometimes a gap payment that needs to be paid by the client.

  • How often do I need to have appointments?

At Mental Health Reimagined, I encourage you to determine and choose your own appointment frequency. After all, this is your journey, not mine. You will be able to manage all your appointments through an online booking portal and can book whatever suits you. Some people see me twice a week and some people only come every few months (especially once stable or recovered). Most people however, attend weekly or fortnightly.

  • How much do the appointments cost? Do you Bulk Bill?

Bulk billing is not available. Please see details about fees and rebates HERE

  • Is there a limit on sessions per year?

There is no limit on how many times you can see a Nurse Practitioner per year. Every appointment will attract a medicare rebate and once you hit your safety net, you’ll receive 80% of every appointment back from Medicare.

  • Are my sessions confidential?

Mental Health treatment involves sharing personal information, which is generally sensitive, private and can be distressing. In accordance with ethical guidelines, what you disclose at Mental Health Reimagined is kept confidential.

There are, however, 3 exemptions where information can be released without your consent.

    These include:

    1. If you pose a serious threat to harm yourself or others, Mental Health Reimagined is required to take whatever steps are required by law to help prevent potential harm from happening. This may include contacting your family or appropriate officials (Police, General Practitioner, or other Mental Health agencies etc.)

    2. If abuse or harmful neglect of children is known or reasonably suspected, Mental Health Reimagined is mandated to report these concerns to the Department of Health and Human Services.

    3. If your records are subpoenaed by the court.

  • Do you have disability access? Is it easy to park near your clinic?

Whilst our gorgeous heritage building is full of character and charm, unfortunately the disability access is poor. There is a flight of stairs up to my office and no lift available. If this is a barrier to accessing service, please contact me so we can discuss alternate options.

  • Do you offer Telehealth?

I sure do. I provide a lot of Telehealth and see clients all over the country. Telehealth attracts equal medicare rebates as in-person appointments.

EMDR can also be provided online via telehealth.

  • How do I book my appointments? Do you have an online booking system?

You can easily manage all of your appointments online HERE

Cancellation policy still applies to appointments cancelled within the online portal within 24 hours.

  • Can I bring my baby or child to an appointment?

At Mental Health Reimagined, I understand that sometimes life is unpredictable. You can always bring children to your appointments whenever you like and there is a range of books, basic art supplies and toys for them to use. There is also a sensory chair that children will sometimes sit inside and watch something on an ipad or phone etc.

Please note, that having children present  can make some aspects of treatment more difficult. This can include difficulty discussing sensitive topics or just simply being distracted. I am unable to provide EMDR when children are present.
